Why turn on this feature?
Employees (especially Millenials and Gen Z) are putting pressure on employers now more than ever to be more accommodating to folks from all backgrounds. One of the easiest and most important ways to do this is addressing people by their gender pronouns.
It’s so important that in 2021, Slack rolled out the ability to prominently list your pronouns right under your name and job title. It’s off by default but it’s a free feature available on all plans – you just need to be at least a workspace or org administrator to enable it. And Since Slack is likely your company’s main communication channel, turning it on and letting folks know is an easy win for inclusion in the workplace.

How to enable pronouns in Slack
- From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
- Select Settings & administration from the menu, then click Workspace settings.
- Scroll down to Pronouns Display, then click Expand.
- Check or uncheck the box next to Show pronouns on profiles.
- Click Save.
